The purpose of this book

The purpose of this book is to reveal the secrets that explain the philosophy of the universe. This includes the process of how the universe has been created, how the outer universe and the inner world interact and enter into each other, how material becomes energy and vice versa. The objective is to be able to deal with the inner and outer domains with equal ease. One can actually practice these processes described by Vedas to achieve success in the outside realm as well as to attain the satisfaction of having reached 'home' - the Self or THAT.

Life means movement. Therefore, the presence of life is understood by movement. Every particle, thing and person in this world is in movement. Surely, there must be a purpose for this movement. There must be some point, or place, that everybody wants to reach by this movement. It is when one reaches 'home' that one feels truly satisfied. Whether the stay outside has been difficult or very comfortable, the return home is best. From that 'home' - that One Seed, the Parama Aatman, the smallest possible atom, the seed of the Universe - the whole Universe has emerged. Thus, after having been part of and enjoyed the Universal movement, that is this life, everything leads back towards that home again - the Seed (Vishwabeej). The tree is complete when it reaches the level of the seed again. It is a journey from seed to seed. In all things, this journey is an in-built program i.e. to seek out and reach one's home.

There are always two possibilities, two paths. One goes outward and the other inward. It is possible that both paths lead to the same goal, but the inward path is safer, and therefore, the correct one. For the understanding of the universe or of Vedic literature it is better to take the inner path since it can be experienced within the body.

For a human being to go towards the Universe is the path outward, where there are chances that one will be lost in the infinite expansion. This path may often seem to have greater attractions and glittering offers of happiness. All things on this path can be measured and counted, and the numbers will never end. Thus, most often, the seeker loses energy and may end up being discontented.

The other path - the inner path - is where one must become quiet and try to go within. The sense of things is limited, and everything can be understood and experienced through the mechanism of the body. In the body there are different centres that convert material food into energy, that administer everything, promoting motion and also the possibilities of the experience of satisfaction, freedom, contentment and so on.

There have been many guides and teachers since they have always been required. They have been trying to show us different processes and vehicles required to follow specific paths. Some showed ethical disciplines and others showed rituals like worshipping idols, technologies of fire sacraments and so on. Special procedures that one could sing or listen to for beneficial effects, called Mantras, were revealed. Just like programs work in a computer Mantras work on the brain to offer energy for prosperity and peace. The Vedic seers had a special capacity to write down this information in poetical form in such a way that it could be interpreted to apply to the inside universe as well as the world outside.

The interpretations that are based only on the outer universe are unable to establish the link between the knowledge and the therapy practice (e.g. In the process of Yadnya) and this has led to a big gap or a limited understanding of the Vedas. Therefore, most interpretations of the 16 verses of the Purusha Suktam do not lead to coherent and justified meanings when taken together. Surprisingly, in spite of that limited understanding, some of the therapies practiced as ritual show clear connections to the body-universe as they were performed to offer health and prosperity.

However, by accepting the information related to the body-universe, the meanings and processes become absolutely clear. The therapies that are designed to offer peace and prosperity are based more on the inner world or body-universe.

Since the Vedas are ancient and eternal the population who followed the practices derived on the basis of Vedic knowledge were called Sanaatani (those who follow the 'eternal way'). This Sanaatan Dharma is a discipline to connect all things in the universe, living and non-living and this connection indicates unity and non-duality. The Sanaatani give importance to love, service and sacrifice. Therefore, the Sanaatan Dharma has completely natural fundamentals and is a dharma of human evolution i.e. Development from inert to consciousness. 'Dharma' means 'to hold together' and therefore, the main purpose of the Sanaatan Dharma is to provide a guideline to hold together all of society that comprises of various individuals who practice different rituals suitable for them, and ultimately brings all of creation together.

In recent ages the term Sanaatan Dharma has been replaced with the words 'Hindu religion'. Thus, the Hindu religion has a discipline and many practices to make the person healthy and prosperous, which in due course leads to freedom from illusory desires i.e. Nirvaan, or the attainment of complete prosperity and peace i.e. Moksha. It describes different forms of energy and centres of these energies, rituals and many practices - all based on the same fundamentals - but the individual is given the freedom to choose from any of the disciplines.

One of the disciplines called Yadnya has become a very popular Indian tradition. This discipline offers society some benefits and therefore it has lasted for thousands of years.

Agni, or the principle of Fire, is central to Yadnya. The Vedic literature starts with the following verse

Agnim eel'e purohitam yadnyasya devam rhutvijam hotaaram ratnadhaatamam

I sincerely pray to the Vaishwaanara Fire (Agni) of the body, who controls automatically all internal as well as external activities (Yadnya) of the body, who delivers the required energy to all my senses and who controls them, to protect all my senses and activities that take place when there are changes in the body as per the seasons.

The element of fire is very important and becomes the main energy to be used in Yadnya. In the Purursha Suktam the entire process of energy transformation through Yadnya is explained. To understand this process and adopt it in different walks of life will become easier with the help of this book. Different forms of Fire in different types of Yadnya can also be understood when one looks at the real meanings of the Suktam in this book.

All this knowledge is our ancient wealth. Perhaps the reason it comes to me now is because a time has come upon us where the world has gone very far towards the material, forgetting the balance between the physical and the spiritual. All things have become illusory, or what we in Hindu philosophy call Maya i.e. Objects keep changing in form and status. This gives rise to a great number of problems, as we can see in our lives. Since we have this rich store of wonderful knowledge of the ancients, why can we not utilize It for our happiness? Instead, since the whole subject of the Vedas is associated with religion, and religion has been politicized by vested interests, the Vedas are being rejected as well. Many regions, apart from India, have been following their ancient practices but perhaps without full appreciation or understanding of the observances. It may be that we have only been imitating the ancients. Somewhere along the journey we have forgotten the authentic techniques and delivery systems that would enable these practices to bring us real and tangible results. Therefore, although there have been instances of receiving such results, they have been poor. The percentage of result was never satisfactory, and never up to the level expected.

My father was a very well known master of the Vedic sciences. The Government of the State of Gujarat conferred upon him the title of Vedashastri, a rare and distinguished honor. In my childhood, right from the time I saw that my father had authority in the spiritual world, and could make the Vedas work, I also noticed that not very many who practiced these rituals really expected any results, unfortunately. Their understanding of the subject was linear and limited. People who chanted and practiced the Vedas had preserved its mantras and rituals very well. Perhaps the results were not seen because they did not have the capability to establish contact with the Origin or with different energy centers (in the brain), or what, in everyday language, we can call the Gods.

The Vedas are ancient teachings and are not claimed by any individual to prove his wisdom of satisfy his ego. They are a collection of experiences in Mantra form, either as used in the ritual or chanted and listened to, to encounter 'truth' to understand the process required to reach the destination by whatever one follows.

Many of the mantras and many sections of Vedic literature talk about the body, its creation, the nervous system and the work of the brain. Through the understanding of the mantras offered as programs It should become possible for the individual to develop and evolve the energy required to reach THAT destination.
